Beverly Nelson

May 1, 1940 — December 4, 2020

Every community is blessed to be home to at least a few special souls that many know by sight, and few know by heart.

Beverly Nelson was one of those unique souls. Many long time Rawlins residents may remember her riding…. or pushing…her bicycle on the west side of Rawlins. Bev always had “work” to do. For many years she collected aluminum cans with the proceeds of their sale going to the Rawlins Fire Dept. Her second “job” was checking and reporting on the weather. She kept a little notebook with very neat records of the wind speed, cloud formation and forecast. Her favorite weather reporting spot was in the hills behind the Methodist Church. She said she felt closer to God there.

Naturally, after working two jobs, hunger would set in. She found a friend and a free meal when she stopped into Mike’s on her way home. Usually, just a hamburger and Pepsi.

In later years, her family became the staff at Rawlins Rehabilitation. She endured the amputation of her right leg, bounced back, and continued providing everyone with a daily weather forecast. She made the decision to move to Shepard of the Valley Nursing Home in Casper in 2018.

Beverly loved the outdoors, chocolate, Pepsi, and skeletons. Christmas Dinner at Burger King was a treat.

Beverly was born on May 1, 1940 and passed from this life on December 4, 2020 after contracting Covid.

In the Spring her cremains will be scattered, per her wishes, in the outdoors that she loved. Her precious soul is resting right now with the God that she loved. Beverly is free.
